Many people desire the ability to work at home. They imagine themselves rolling out of bed, commuting 20 feet without any traffic, except for the occasional pet sleeping in the hallway and starting work in their home office as they sip on their favorite cup o’ joe. Without the daily office politics, commute, and water cooler gossip they feel they will be more focused and, ultimately, more efficient. However, with this freedom comes some unforeseen drawbacks that can affect your stress level. You may find it difficult to keep yourself organized and motivated without the pressures of a boss or management team.

When you work from home and are not required to clock in and out at a specific time, you are responsible for your own time management. To keep yourself and your home office organized so you are more productive and have less stress, try the following tips:

1. Keep a separate and specific work area in your home. This can be as simple as setting up a large desk and a small filing cabinet in a quiet room. Make sure you have plenty of lighting. Keep it clean and organized so you can find the materials and supplies you need to do your work.

2. Learn how you are more productive. Identify what type of work environment helps you work at your best. Are you more productive when you are working at your desk or sitting on the couch? Your home office is your domain. Add personal items and things that help give you a positive attitude to help make you more productive.

3. Schedule specific task. Plan your work schedule by identifying your most productive time and when you have the most energy. If you a morning person and think more clearly in the mornings then do your most difficult and important task during this time. If you have children you may want to begin work after you get them off to school, before they wake up or even during their nap.

4. Set your business hours and adhere to the schedule. Just because you work at home does not mean you can take a break whenever you want because there is no boss to tell you to get back to work. You must be managing your time by setting your business hours and following them, after all you are your own boss. Also, many people or clients may assume since you work from home you are available 24/7. Avoid interruptions by setting specific office hours when other people can contact you regarding business. Communicate this – put your business hours on your business cards, website, e-mails and voice-mail recording.

5. Plan, negotiate and prioritize. No matter how hard you try, your business and personal lives will collide. Don’t stress out when personal interruptions affect your business life. Learn to detach from your work mode, to focus and address the interruption and resolve it so that you can move forward. Then switch back to work mode and get back to your regular work schedule.

Eventually, you will learn to weave in and out between business mode and personal mode throughout the day so there can be a productive balance between work and life when you work at home.

Remember: Balance between work and play is key, not only to being productive, but to maintaining your motivation and business productivity long-term as well.

Below is a blog post from my old blog which is now a bit dated (2009), but I though the lesson was worth repeating and posting here for new readers:

Here are two articles that every network marketer and entrepreneur should read and learn from.

Both articles examine last week’s speeches of Barack and Michelle Obama to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and explain why the Obamas failed to persuade the IOC to choose Chicago as the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games.

“OBAMAS VIOLATED THE FIRST THREE RULES OF SELLING” by C. Edmund Wright.

“MICHELLE OBAMA’S OLYMPIC ‘GIMME’ SPEECH” by Joe Gimenez.

LEARN FROM THE ABOVE TWO ARTICLES!

Whether you agree or disagree with the political philosophy of either writer is irrelevant. What’s relevant is that both Wright and Gimenez correctly identify the flaws and ineffectiveness in the Obamas’ speeches and strategy.

As you read these two articles, take notes as to what the two authors point out was wrong with the Obamas’ strategy, and ask yourself if anything pertains to your sales and marketing tools.

If nothing is pertinent, then that’s good!

But if something is pertinent, then make the necessary changes!

Enjoy the articles . . . learn from them . . . and share them!

Information products are becoming extremely popular and one of the reasons for this is we live in a time when people want their information and they want it now.

Think about it, someone logs onto the internet late at night feeling tired and miserable because they can’t sleep – they start searching for sleep help and a website featuring a great information product which will show that that person how they can get more sleep comes up. Sure that person could probably find a lot of that information for free if they searched the net long enough, but they don’t have days to search, they want to get to sleep now. With an information product, they can instantly download and be reading that product all in less than 5 minutes.

People are extremely busy and want their info fast and also on the go. Many information products are a combination of audio as well as text. This is due to the increasing number of people wanting to take their information with them. Audio information products are great for busy people too.

Another important factor to note is that in general people would much rather spend a few dollars to educate themselves and find out “HOW TO” do something, rather than actually doing the thing they are wanting to find more information about. Psychologically, they are getting a “pay-off” by “taking the “initiative” for “finding out how” and will feel better about themselves and their goals for doing so. In and of itself this psychological pay-off is a huge contributing factor as to why information products and “how to” courses are such hot-ticket items.

Information products can be written on a wide variety of subjects, from recipes to work at home, to parenting – an information product shouldn’t be much different to a standard product. It should provide useful, valuable information to the purchaser and be of a high standard. The only difference is information products can be digitally downloaded, which means you don’t deliver a physical product to the customer.

Here are a few more reasons why information products are great for all business owners:

Once you write the product it keeps producing for you. Once you cover the costs of putting the product together, all future sales are profits. You do the work once and the product keeps working for you over and over again.

They’re simple to put together. With a research outline you can quickly put together an information product. You don’t have to worry about finding a publisher or printing costs. All you need to do is take the information you have on a subject and put it into words or audio (or both).

You can send traffic to your website. By creating an affiliate program others will help you promote your information product, which means they will drive traffic to your website and help sell your product for a commission. What a great way to build an effective sales force.

Another benefit to creating your own information product is that it will position YOU (not someone else) as the knowledgeable expert in your field of expertise. When you position yourself in the market in this way, you begin to put into affect “The Law of Attraction.” In doing so, you will begin to draw many new leads, potential customers and referrals to you and your primary product, business or back-end opportunity. The classic “Funded Proposal,” if you will.

It’s an extra passive incoming stream. Again, you do the work once and it keeps producing for you. If you offer a service online you can put together an information product which will earn you a nice passive income.

No matter how you look at it information products are hot. They’re in demand and this is a great time to get started creating your own information products.

To Your Info-Marketing Success!

[MEDIA not found]

What should you look for in a company? At the top of my list is a quality product or service. So here’s what you should look for in a product or service:

Exciting. If you’re personally excited by the products and use them yourself, your enthusiasm will be your best sales asset.

High quality. Your long-term residual income is based on the product’s ability to deliver on its promise and maintain customer loyalty. You’ll never have to make an apology for a high-quality product.

Fairly priced. MLM products don’t usually win as the low-cost provider. However, high quality doesn’t necessarily mean overpriced. Make sure you or your customers are comparing apples to apples when price-shopping the competition.

Lifecycle. Are you at the beginning phase of a new product with a viable and growing market demand?

Unique. If it’s ‘another one just like the other one,’ you’d better look for a special marketing angle that separates this product from the pack.

Exclusivity. Be cautious if it’s available through other channels of distribution such as retail stores, catalogs or other MLM companies.

Satisfaction guarantee. A company that doesn’t stand behind its product will surely leave you embarrassed or potentially responsible to your customers.

Sales aids. Make sure the company has promotional literature that adequately supports product benefits and promotes retail sales.

Once you’ve found a product or service you can believe in, evaluate the company based on your personal needs and beliefs. Here’s what to look for:

Support materials. Company literature should be easily understandable and provide a professional image to support your business activities.

Policies and procedures document. Read and understand what you can and can’t do. These internal distributor regulations are designed to protect the integrity of the business and deal with the occasional renegade distributor who can ruin things for everyone. If the company offers no policies document, heed this as a red flag. This company either hasn’t had good MLM legal advice or doesn’t plan to stick around very long.

Corporate executives. They should be committed to quality and integrity, and have genuine concern for their distributors. If possible, interview them if possible, or at least talk to other successful distributors for their thoughts.

Ask:

Does one or more have experience in MLM?

Are experts involved in areas of administration, financial management, distribution and commissioning software?

Has the company hired professional consultants to help in areas of weakness?

History. How long has the company been in business? How many countries does it operate in? How many distributors does it have? What are its gross yearly sales? Is it well-funded? If it’s privately held, this information might not be readily available, but it’s worth a try.

Compensation plan. Does it sound realistic in its promises? When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Was it designed by competent experienced MLM experts? Does it fit your needs for part-time income or a full-time career opportunity? Does the plan use time-tested and proven success concepts, or are you part of an experimental program? Look for proof of success of this concept as used by another MLM. Have your sponsor or a company official explain it to you in detail.

Philosophy. Does it fit your style and make you feel comfortable and proud to be part of the organization?

Sales and training. Does the company or your upline offer regular support sessions or telephone training?

Commission software provider. Did a reputable company provide the software that will determine your bonuses? If new software has just been installed, it’s not uncommon to see glitches for a period of time that can affect your anticipated income stream.

Communication. Look for good communication in the form of newsletters, voice-mail capabilities, national conference calls and a strong Web presence using all available communication technologies.

Protection. The only required investment should be a noncommissionable sales kit. All other investments should be optional. Beware of large inventory load enticements or offers to buy positions. In case things don’t work out for you, make sure there’s a buy-back policy on your unsold inventory.

One important thing to keep in mind -

If you’re inexperienced, even selecting the right company won’t assure your success. Choosing the right upline sponsor to support you can be equally important. Is there someone in your first three upline levels who has had substantial success and can show you the way? This can be your shortcut to accelerated growth and my strongest recommendation for gaining early momentum.
